The Wind and I
A poem by Judy Sorum Brown

Many thanks to Judy Brown, a good friend and brilliant poet, for her permission to post “The Wind and I.” It was just the message I needed to hear. I suspect you may feel the same way. For more of Judy’s terrific poetry, books, podcast, and her work in leadership, please check out her website.
The Wind and I
The wind and I
Play a game
With each other.
I place two chairs
On either side
Of the little round table
On the deck
Overlooking the creek:
A sweet arrangement
For a friendly conversation.
The howling wind comes through
And pushes one chair close
Against the table,
Erasing the space.
The next day
I reset the chairs
As before.
And the howling wind
Comes through again,
Pushing the chair
Against the table as before,
As if to say,
“Closer. You must be closer
for the conversation.
Closer still.”
I’m considering
The possibility
That the wind is right.
